The short version
- If you sign up for the free Myth-Buster Cards, we keep your first name and email address so we can send you occasional emails about the book. You can unsubscribe at any time.
- The sign-up is for grown-ups. We ask your age first, and we don't collect information from anyone under 18.
- We don't sell your personal information.
- Ad measurement with the Meta Pixel is only offered to grown-ups who have signed up, only runs if you allow it, and never runs if your browser sends Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track.
This policy explains how we collect, use and share information on this website, which promotes the children's book 100,000 Whys for Kids. The book is published under the pen name Theo Tolland. In this policy, "we", "us" and "our" mean the publisher of 100,000 Whys for Kids. You can reach us at theotolland.1@gmail.com.
Information we collect
Information you give us
When you sign up for the free Myth-Buster Cards, we collect your first name, your email address and your agreement to receive our emails. We also record the date and time, which button or page you signed up from, and the wording of the agreement you accepted.
Before you can sign up, we ask your age. We use the answer only to check that you're 18 or older; we keep only the fact that you said you're 18 or older, not your age.
If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you choose to write.
Information stored in your browser
This website saves a small note in your browser's local storage: your first name and the date you signed up (so the page remembers that you already have the cards), or, for 24 hours, the fact that the sign-up isn't available to you because you're under 18, and your choice about ad measurement. This note stays on your device; we can't see it, and you can delete it at any time by clearing your browser's site data.
Information collected automatically
This website is hosted by GitHub, Inc. (GitHub Pages). Like most web hosts, GitHub may record technical information such as your IP address, browser and device type, and the pages you request, in order to deliver the website and keep it secure. We don't use analytics tools on this website.
Ad measurement with the Meta Pixel
We may use the Meta Pixel, a tool from Meta Platforms, Inc., to measure how well our Facebook and Instagram ads work. We only ask after you've signed up for the free cards and told us you're 18 or older. It loads only if you click "Allow", and you can change your choice at any time with "Ad settings" at the bottom of the page. When it's active, Meta can receive information such as your IP address, browser and device information, cookie identifiers, the pages you view on this website and whether you signed up for the free cards. We don't send Meta your name or email address. Meta's use of this information is covered by Meta's Privacy Policy.
How we use information
- To give you the free Myth-Buster Cards.
- To send you occasional emails about 100,000 Whys for Kids, the Curious Kids Collection and future books, if you agreed to receive them.
- To measure and improve our ads, only if you allowed ad measurement.
- To answer your messages and requests.
- To keep this website working and secure, and to meet our legal obligations.
How we share information
We don't sell your personal information, and we don't share it with other companies for their own marketing. We share information only with service providers that help us run this website and our emails:
- Google LLC, whose Google Forms and Google Sheets store sign-ups.
- GitHub, Inc., which hosts this website.
- Meta Platforms, Inc., only if you allowed ad measurement.
- An email service provider, if we use one to send our emails.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, to protect the rights and safety of others or ourselves, or to a buyer if the book business is sold or transferred.
Buying on Amazon
When you click a "Buy on Amazon" button, you leave this website and go to Amazon.com. We don't receive your purchase or payment information. Amazon's own privacy notice applies on Amazon.com.
Cookies, Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control
This website doesn't use cookies unless you allow ad measurement. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track signal, we treat it as a request not to use ad measurement, and the Meta Pixel doesn't load.
Apart from the Meta Pixel described above, and only if you allow it, we don't allow other companies to collect information about your online activities over time and across different websites through this website.
Children's privacy
The book is written for children, but this website and its sign-up are meant for adults: parents, guardians and teachers. The sign-up isn't available to anyone under 18, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Ad measurement is never offered to a visitor whose age we don't know or who tells us they're under 18. If you believe a child has given us personal information, email us at theotolland.1@gmail.com and we'll delete it.
Your choices and rights
Unsubscribing
Every email we send includes a link to unsubscribe, or you can email us. We'll stop sending you marketing emails within 10 business days. We keep your email address on a "do not contact" list so we don't email you again by mistake.
Access, correction and deletion
You can ask us what information we have about you, ask us to correct it or ask us to delete it by emailing theotolland.1@gmail.com from the email address you signed up with. We'll reply within 45 days. We may need to confirm your identity first, and you can make a request through an authorized agent.
State privacy laws
Residents of some U.S. states, including California, Colorado, Connecticut, Oregon, Texas, Utah and Virginia, have rights under state privacy laws, such as the right to know, access, correct and delete personal information and to opt out of targeted advertising. We honor these requests from everyone, wherever you live. We won't treat you differently for using your rights. If we can't fulfill a request, we'll explain why, and you can appeal by replying to our answer with the word "Appeal".
California and Nevada
California's "Shine the Light" law lets California residents ask whether we share personal information with other companies for their direct marketing. We don't. Nevada residents: we don't sell covered information as defined by Nevada law.
How long we keep information
We keep your sign-up details for as long as you stay on our list. If you unsubscribe or ask us to delete your information, we delete it, except for your email address on our "do not contact" list and any records the law requires us to keep.
Security
We use reasonable measures to protect the information we keep, such as limiting who can access it. No website or online service is completely secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security.
Where information is processed
This website is meant for people in the United States. We and our service providers may store and process information in the United States and in other countries.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll post the new version here with a new effective date. If we make an important change to how we use your email address, we'll tell subscribers by email before it takes effect.
